Context

A custom decorative shelf for a sim racing center, commissioned by a client who wanted a piece that would resonate instantly with motorsport enthusiasts walking into the venue. The design reproduces the rear wing and endplate of a Porsche 911 GT3 RS, with the client's own logo integrated into the side fin so the branding reads clearly on display.

Problem

The piece needed to be immediately recognizable as a GT3 RS wing to anyone into racing — proportions and geometry had to read right, not just 'look like a spoiler.' It also had to double as a functional shelf and hold up as a retail-grade display object, all while being produced entirely in-house rather than through the professional manufacturing network normally used for higher-volume or higher-tolerance client work.

Process / Iterations

Modeled fully in Fusion 360, matching the wing and endplate profile of the reference car and integrating the client's logo into the side fin geometry. Manufactured entirely by FDM 3D printing in ABS, using a heated bed with a carbon-fiber-textured surface to imprint a carbon-look finish directly onto the plastic — no paint, no vinyl wrap. Several color variants were printed to test the finish before settling on a final one; the remaining units were sold individually as a standalone product rather than left as scrap prototypes. Final assembly combines a wood shelf base with 3D-printed ABS mounting brackets and stainless steel hardware.
